On 8 September, on the invitation of the AIPPL – Italian Association of Wooden Floor Installers, with great pleasure I participated to the parquet Workcamp in Gyor, Hungary, held from 1 to 9 September.

For the AIPPL there were Pietro Belloni, Giorgio Bramini and Giovanni Sonzogni who, together with their colleagues from 14 different countries around the world, as professional parquet volunteers, renovated a wooden floor oak wood and, partly beech, in some rooms inside the city castle, the archbishop’s seat.

As part of the activities, the project also included a training part with in-depth seminars dedicated to wood. I had the pleasure of presenting Lignamundi , the identification atlas and guide to the properties and characteristics of woods from temperate and tropical forests from all over the world, published by ECO.is, written myself and Prof. Flavio Ruffinatto, curator of the xylotheque that hold the same name as the volume, published in Italian and, in a few days, in the English version.

The training meeting took place with the participation of all the installers involved in the project, who were very interested in learning as much as possible about the parquet wood species: we explored the characteristics of different woods used in the world of flooring, such as tigerwood, amaranth, rosewood, afzelia and others, as well as those less known but of undoubted value for the uses as previously mentioned, always keeping the principle of environmental sustainability and FSC certification as a reference.

Thanks to all the friends of the Workcamp with the hope of seeing them again, perhaps in San Giovanni al Natisone, in the xylotheque!
